Making music in Tucson

I took all these pictures because it was such a joy watching (and listening!) as Rick got lost in the music.

Rick said that as a child, he was in awe of his father's piano-playing skills.  His father's special piece was Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu (a virtuoso work).

One time I told Rick that whenever I walk into a house, the first thing I notice is whether or not there is a piano.  If there isn't one, I think it's sad.  That seemed to really resonate with him.  It was then that he said a line that became my all-time favorite Rick quote: "It's criminal to raise a child in a house without a piano."

Okay, actually he said "It's almost criminal to raise a child in a house without a piano."  (He wasn't given to strong statements.)  I've quoted this line so many times over the years.

Turns out the piano mover hadn't set this one leg properly, so Rick was fixing it.  For some reason it was funny.
